While preparing for air shows, the team needs to maintain its skills by continuous training. Since there was a gap of more than two months between Fairford and the RNLAF 2011 Open Days, a training day was scheduled for 18 August 2011. Apart from the training slots for Wally and Wokkel, it was also a special day for the entire team due to the fact that Air Commodore Theo ten Haaf, Commander of the Defence Helicopter Command, was flying along during the demonstration flight.

Air Cdre Ten Haaf, who used to be a Grasshopper himself, displayed a keen interest in the new sequence and in the aerobatic capabilities of the Apache. Air Cdre Ten Haaf was very impressed with the demo flight and offered, there and then, to take over the chair from Wokkel for the rest of the demo season.

At the debriefing, Air Cdre Ten Haaf was the first recipient of the Hawk, presented to him by Team Captain Wally. One more training day has been scheduled for the coming month. After that, the Demo Team will be fully prepared and ready for the 2011 Open Days of the Royal Netherlands Air Force on 16 and 17, immediately followed by the Sanicole Air Show on 18 September.
